Description:
The Criminal Victims Compensation Commission provides financial assistance to innocent victims of crime.

Achievements:
  • The Department of Human Services along with Kidscope and the Virgin Islands Police Department held two overnight bereavement camps for minors who have lost a parent as a result of a crime in the Virgin Islands.
  • The children received counseling and engaged numerous activities including but not limited to hiking, storytelling, arts and crafts, and fireside music performances.
  • All campers have chosen to seek individual and family counseling
  • Realizing that there was little to offer the children of the homicide victims whose families ask for burial assistance, they decided to conduct children’s bereavement camps once a year.

  • The Criminal Victims Compensation Commission determined that thirteen (13) children were eligible to participate in the bereavement camps based on applications submitted and eligibility criteria. Twelve (12) children between the ages of six (6) and (14) attended the camp that was held at the eco-friendly resort, Northside Valley, in the town of Frederiksted on the island of St. Croix.
