Description:
A total of $565,500 is awarded to nonprofit organizations territory-wide to create jobs and hire 20 TANF recipients in full-time employment for a maximum of 18 months of employment.

Achievements: November 2009 - October 2010
  • Several nonprofit organizations responded to the TANF Job Creation Project RFP, selected nonprofit organizations were given several TANF recipients to interview and choose the best candidate for their organization and desired positions
    • 20 TANF recipients were selected and employed
    • Participating nonprofits were: Covenant Point Institute, St. Croix Animal Welfare, Beyond Vision Foundation, Lutheran Social Services, Ten Thousand Helpers
  • As of April 2010, 31 TANF recipients were actively working full time jobs at the participating nonprofit organizations 
  • As of May 2010, there were 41 TANF recipients actively working full time jobs at the participating nonprofit organizations
  • As of June 2010, there were 44 TANF recipients actively working full time jobs at the participating nonprofit organizations
  • As of August 2010, there were 44 TANF recipients actively working full tine jobs at the participating nonprofit organizations
  • During October 2010, project activities came to a close.

  • Individuals seeking independence from public assistance were granted a rare opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, career skill-sets and financial emancipation away from subsidies and assistance. Approximately 45 individuals were allotted 18 months of work that did not count against their TANF payments.
  • The following non-profit agencies that participated in this initiative include: Covenant Point Institute, St. Croix Animal Welfare, Beyond Vision Foundation, Lutheran Social Services, and Ten Thousand Helpers.  This was beneficial to the Territory and promoted economic prosperity during a time of economic downturn
